Machinery Safety Directive
The Machinery Safety Directive (MSD) applies, with a few notable exceptions, to all machinery. Machinery is commonly defined as an assembly of linked parts or components, at least one of which moves, joined together for a specific application. It can also refer to an assembly of machines which, in order to achieve the same end, are arranged and controlled so that they function as an integral whole.
Any machine has the potential to fall within the scope of the MSD and the vast majority of manufacturers of machinery sold or used within the European Union need to ensure that their products comply with its requirements. Manufacturers who do so can affix a valid CE Mark to their products to indicate conformity.
Machinery Safety Directive Support from AMTRE VERITAS STANDARD TECHNICAL TESTING LTD
Demonstrating product compliance with the MSD can be complicated and time consuming. Manufacturers must demonstrate that, via a combination of product testing and the preparation of appropriate documentation, a machine has either been produced in conformity with the relevant standards or meets the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSRs) that apply to it. Either option requires a knowledge and understanding of both the standards and the MSD, and the equipment and resources to complete any testing that is required. The entire process can prove costly and impractical.

AMTRE VERITAS STANDARD TECHNICAL TESTING LTD can provide MSD Compliance solutions that both simplify the process for manufacturers and minimise costs. Our team of consultant engineers can undertake a wide range of tasks on behalf of clients, including:
● Safety Compliance Reviews - Assessments of product designs, selection of applicable standards and development of cost-effective compliance strategies.
● Inspections, Risk Assessments & Testing – On-site or lab based inspection and testing of manufacturers' products to ensure compliance with the applicable standards or EHSRs.
● Documentation Preparation – Preparation of test and risk assessment reports, technical files and other documentation required to demonstrate product conformity to the MSD.
● General Technical Consultancy – Providing advice to clients on methods to eliminate or reduce safety hazards, statutory obligations and other compliance issues.
Whatever clients' individual requirements may be, from simple technical advice to developing and managing a full company-wide

AMTRE VERITAS STANDARD TECHNICAL TESTING LTD can provide a solution that meets their needs and budget.
AMTRE VERITAS STANDARD TECHNICAL TESTING LTD Machinery Safety Notified Body Services
Some machinery, due to its design and intended use, is considered under Machinery Safety Directive to pose a continuing and significant risk to safety. Machinery of this type is listed in Annex IV of the Directive and includes products such as chainsaws, planers and presses amongst others.
Machinery listed within Annex IV of the Machinery Safety Directive must be subjected to one of a range of special attestation procedures in order for a claim of conformity to the Directive to be valid. All the attestation options require the involvement of a Notified Body for the Machinery Safety Directive.
AMTRE VERITAS STANDARD TECHNICAL TESTING LTD is a Notified Body for the MSD and can support the Special Attestation Procedures on behalf of manufacturers. This support can involve conducting product examinations, documentation assessments or registering and storing technical files. A number of attestation options are open to a manufacturer and AMTRE VERITAS STANDARD TECHNICAL TESTING LTD can provide guidance on which one is most appropriate.
